A man has taken two people hostage at a business centre in Paris.
The French police said the incident did not appear to be terrorism-related.
Police said the man had asked to communicate with the Iranian embassy so that they could convey a message to the French government.
Reports said the man doused petrol on the hostages. The man is reportedly armed and holding at least two people.
"Officials will be trying to start a negotiation with the man," police union official Yves Lefebvre told BFM TV.
There is no information yet about the exact profile of the hostage-taker.
